Our Pride Turkish Women Scientists

Let's get to know our proud Turkish scientists who have made a name for themselves and their work in the world.

PROF. DR. FERYAL SPECIAL

Our Astrophysicist Prof. Dr. Feryal Özel is currently a professor of astronomy and physics at the University of Arizona, as well as NASA Astrophysics Committee Chair, NASA Lynx Space Telescope Science and Technical Team Chair, and Event Horizon Telescope Science Council and Modeling and Analysis Working Group Chair.

Ozel, who continues her scientific studies in the USA and is described as "one of the smartest women in the world", is a member of the EHT Science Council and a faculty member at the University of Arizona, is tasked with measuring the size of the black hole's shadow and comparing the predictions of Albert Einstein's theory of relativity with the EHT observations. Head of the Working Group. He explains the importance of wondering and grounding our curiosity with the following words:

"I was thinking about questions such as what is the structure of matter, why do the laws of the universe work like this. It is important to ask questions and wonder.

PROF. DR. BETUL KAÇAR

prof. Dr. The adventure of success, which started with the project that Betül Kaçar applied while she was a student at Marmara University, was awarded by the American Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) continues.

He made his doctoral studies on proteins that cause Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases at Emory University Faculty of Medicine. He made his own research subject by switching to the field of evolutionary biology and astrobiology after his doctorate. He is also among the founders of NASA - SAGAN, the only astrobiology education platform in the world for young people who have difficulty in accessing education and information. In 2016, he was invited to be a faculty member at the Earth-shame Institute (ELSI) established by the Japanese Government, and he is currently continuing his duty at Tokyo Institute of Technology simultaneously with the USA.

Betül Kaçar, whose research is on understanding the biological structure of micro-sized creatures that leave residues on the earth; He compares the biological life of the past, which he revives in the laboratory, with the data obtained from the solar system and planets outside it, and looks for traces of life in the universe. “My story is based on hard work,” he says of his successful life.

DR. DUYGU ÖZMADENCİ

Özmadenci, who started his education life in a primary school in Zonguldak Ereğli, completed high school at Galatasaray High School, studied Biology at Istanbul University, and then went to the University of San Diego, USA for post-doctoral studies.

Dr. Duygu Özmadenci developed a method of combating ovarian cancer cells with drugs, and with this work she was deemed worthy of the OCRA Foundation, which has been supporting cancer research in the USA for 22 years, given to only 10 people every year.

Making Turkey proud with her achievements, Özmadenci has a message for young girls who want to be scientists but face difficulties and lose hope: "Don't give up on working. At the same time, learning a language is very important, especially English. Because all the publications are in English. There were also those who said you can't," I certainly did not give up. Let them pursue their goals resolutely. I think Turkish women and Turks are very smart".

 DR. Hatice Zora

He completed his undergraduate degree at Ankara, Hacettepe University and his master's degree at Lund University. In 2016, she completed her doctoral dissertation titled “Memory traces for lexically determined prosodic information in the brain” at Stockholm University during her thesis work in Mapping.

Hatice Zora is a scientist who conducts multidisciplinary studies on phonetics, neuroscience and linguistics.

Giving the world-famous Nobel Prize in Literature for his work, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm University, lecturer doing research in the fields of brain, linguistics and neurophysiology, Turkish academician Dr. He deemed Hatice Zora worthy of the "Royal Dynasty" award for her work on "language and emotion development in the brain".
